The two most important languages of the 21st century are English and coding. In particular, coding, which emerged as a necessity, not an option in the era of the fourth industrial revolution, is also related to major technologies such as IoT (Internet of Things) and AI (Artificial Intelligence), but it is also known to help improve thinking and problem-solving skills.
As a result, advanced countries such as the U.S. and the U.K. early included coding in regular classes, and software (SW) education was also essential in Korea, starting with middle school in 2018. There are also educational programs that make it easier and more fun for children to learn coding.
Among them, "Wonder Code" of the global education company The Education Company Group ("EDCG") provides differentiated children's coding education and has signed agreements with four infant language schools in Seoul (Mokdong/ Shinwol English Running Bay, Jamsil LCI Kids Club, and Yeonhui-dong Wizville Language Institute).
Wonder Code has developed its own coding education curriculum based on STREAM education, which combines science, technology, reading & writing, engineering, art, and mathematics that incorporate English. It has a partnership with the Wonder Workshop in Silicon Valley, which developed the "Dash Robot" used by more than 27,000 schools in the United States.
The curriculum is largely divided into "K-Level (3 levels)" for kindergartens aged 5 to 7 years old and "G-Level (4 levels)" for elementary school students aged 8 to 12 years old, and consists of seven levels of English and eight levels of coding, allowing them to choose according to individual levels.
Coding education has adopted Python, a programming language with low entry barriers, and can naturally learn coding through Dash robots and various topics that can be encountered in real life.
Wonder Code classes are conducted at Jamsil Open Lab LAB as self-directed learning through hands-on challenge, and special lectures by coding camp and theme are also operated. In addition, the team has made excellent progress by participating in the Wonder League Robotics Competition, an annual World Coding Contest held in September.
Recently, through the introduction of an infant language school in Seoul, Wonder Code can be found at Jamsil LCI Kids Club, Mokdong/Shinwol English Running Bay, Wizville Language Academy in Yeonhui-dong.
"The proven curriculum, which combines Wonder Code's English and coding, naturally fosters children's ability to learn the science and technology, engineering, art, and mathematics of existing STREAM education, and it can be learned from block type to play type, and text coding step by step," said an official.
Meanwhile, Wonder Code, launched in 2018, offers English coding education in Japan, Vietnam, and China, as well as Korea Flagship, and is preparing to enter Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia, India, and Malaysia.
Kwon Se-jin, CEO of Wonder Code, who has been engaged in education for more than 20 years, said, "Now WonderCode is preparing various programs including various bridge courses and developer courses. We plan to present the right direction of coding education with a differentiated customized curriculum in the future and expand the number of introductions across the country beyond Seoul-based language schools for infants and children".
